Education

Our Goal

In 2008, United Way launched a 10-year initiative to cut the number of high school dropouts in half by 2018. It’s an ambitious goal, but by utilizing our core strengths — a national network, committed partners and public engagement capacity — we can achieve it.

United Way of Androscoggin County supports community programs that help families and children thrive and learn, youth programs where kids feel safe and welcome, and connect youth with mentors and role models that they trust.  This will be implemented through:

  • Early Childhood & Parenting Education Programs:  Success By 6™
  • Academic Support & Literacy Programs
  • Afterschool, Summer, & Mentoring Programs

Desired Outcomes

  • All children in Androscoggin County are adequately prepared for success in kindergarten.  They have the family and community support required to achieve the intellectual, social, emotional and physical capacity to succeed in school.
  • Individuals are adequately prepared for success in the community and workplace.  Access to services, education and training opportunities leading to self-sufficiency, independence and the ability to contribute to society will be provided.
