United Way Celebrates Community Successes

Community Supporters recognized at United Way’s Annual Meeting

LEWISTON, MAINE (June 11, 2014) United Way of Androscoggin County held its Annual Meeting at The Green Ladle in Lewiston celebrating the successes of its annual campaign, presented awards to local supporters and welcomed two guest speakers, Claire Berkowitz from Maine Children’s Alliance and Phil Crowell from the Auburn Police Department, on the impact of our communities on our children.

United Way of Androscoggin County announced its top ten workplace campaigns; these companies contributed more than $625,000 of the total revenue. Companies included TD Bank, Procter & Gamble, LL Bean, Central Maine Medical Family, St. Mary’s Health System, Mechanics Savings Bank, Geiger, Central Distributors, City of Lewiston and Bates College.

In recognition of the support of our communities, United Way of Androscoggin County has established the Community Builders Awards to celebrate businesses, non-profits and individuals who exemplify the spirit of giving. Award recipients included Linda Levia of the Auburn School Department, David Abel from WMTW-TV/News 8, Erin Reed of the Trinity Jubilee Center and the Lewiston Fire Department.

Annually, United Way of Androscoggin County presents the Spirit of the Androscoggin Award to a company for its ongoing dedication to our community, campaign support and community outreach efforts through United Way. Mechanics Savings Bank was the recipient of this year’s award for its long standing relationship with United. Over the past seventeen years, employees of Mechanics Savings Bank have contributed to $289,000 in our community.
