Planned Giving

Planed Giving enables you to have a meaningful impact on Androscoggin County and the community goals and interests, beyond your own lifetime and far into the future. The United Way can provide gift plans that benefit you and your family, as well as bring immediate and deferred tax advantages to both you and your heirs.

What Is Planned Giving?
Planned giving is a thoughtful strategy that helps people maximize the benefits of charitable giving. With careful planning, it’s possible to significantly reduce income taxes (including capital gain taxes) and transfer taxes (such as gift, estate and inheritance). Depending on the particular planning strategy, these tax benefits can be enjoyed while turning assets into an income for you or for others.

Current tax laws offer special advantages that allow a donor to make donations that may not otherwise be possible. Planned giving honors and serves both the philanthropic wishes and financial interests of the donor.
Planned giving is often, but not necessarily, a component of an estate plan with planned gifts being made will or living trust. Additionally, planned gifts can also be made in the present time separately from estate considerations.

Once considered primarily for wealthier and older segments of our society, planned giving has proven to be a valuable tool in a variety of situations. Simply stated, planned giving helps to create a lasting legacy while enhancing a donor’s financial well-being and security.
