With over 100 people in attendance, it was a night of amusement, awards and appreciation as United Way of Androscoggin County celebrated the community’s support of the 2006 campaign at Martindale Country Club in Auburn.
Comedian George Hamm

United Way of Androscoggin County Board Chair Marc Anthoine, President and CEO of Healey Associates, welcomed attendees to the celebration and introduced the evening’s entertainment, comedian George Hamm who had the crowd laughing with his humorous musings and sarcastic insights.

Following the entertainment, Campaign Cabinet Chair Jeff Gosselin, Vice President of Commercial Lending for TD Banknorth announced United Way of Androscoggin County had raised 80 percent of the $1,800,000 campaign goal and projected that the campaign would reach or exceed the 2006 goal, making this a record-breaking year for the Androscoggin County campaign. 

Funds for the United Way campaign are raised predominately by local business and their employees who give to the non-profit community-focused organization through payroll deduction. Together with United Way of Androscoggin County, Gosselin recognized organizations that demonstrated deep commitment to our community through their United Way campaign. The Spirit of Androscoggin Award, the most prestigious award of the night, was given to Marden’s to recognize the corporation and its employees for their dedication and outstanding campaign support.

Other awards presented included the New Campaign Award, given to Lewiston MAINEiacs, Evergreen Subaru, Pepsi Bottling Group, Futureguard Building Products, Optometric Associates, Taylor Brook Dental, Kohl’s, United Cooperative Farmers, Lee Auto Mall, Hudson Bus Lines and Rinck Advertising. Outstanding Campaign Awards were given to Central Maine Medical Center, L.L. Bean, Mechanics Savings Bank, Androscoggin Bank, TD Banknorth, Wal-Mart Distribution Center, CitiStreet, City of Auburn, Community Dental, Sandcastle Preschool, Liberty Mutual, Geiger, Tambrands/Proctor and Gamble, Healey & Associates, Bachmann Industries, City of Lewiston, CMP and Federal Distributors. The Community Investment Award recognized Gosselin, Dubord & Bell, P.A., Auburn School Dept., BJ’s Wholesale Club, Lowe’s and Clover Health Care. 

The event concluded with Gosselin presenting prizes to three of the United Way donors who qualified for the incentive raffle – Dan Martin of Central Distributors won 100 gallons of home heating oil from Heutz Oil Company, Alan Hill of W. D. Matthews won a kayak from L.L. Bean and Robert Chapman of Lee Auto Mall won an all-inclusive trip for two to Cancun from Dube, Wagonlit Travel.
