Have You Signed Up For TOPS?
2008 TOPS applications are available for third, fourth, fifth and sixth grade Lewiston public school students.  Pick up an application at your local public school or at the United Way of Androscoggin County office.  The deadline to submit all TOPS scholarship forms is June 16, 2008. (MORE)

2-1-1 answers to a wide range of issues including: Shelter, Counseling, Senior 211 LogoServices, Child Care, Veterans Services, Disability Services, Transportation, Education Programs, Energy Assistance and more. This past winter, 2-1-1 assisted over 400 callers in Androscoggin County; where a majority of the calls were for heating assistance. (MORE)

Make sure to mark your calendars for United Way of Androscoggin County’s Annual Meeting; which is scheduled for Thursday, May 22, 2008 at the MuskieArchives at Bates College.  The event will begin at 7:30a.m. and will include a hot breakfast buffet.

EMERGENCY FOOD AND SHELTER PROGRAM FUNDS
United Way of Androscoggin County will receive $61,516 from the Emergency Food and Shelter National Program (EFSP).

A local board will review how the funds awarded to Androscoggin County are to be distributed among the emergency food and shelter programs run by local service organizations in the area.

United Way of Androscoggin County distributed EFSP funds in 2007 to Abused Women’s Advocacy Project, High Street Food Pantry, L/A Area Development Corporation, Sisters of Charity Food Pantry, Trinity Jubilee Center, CCM St. Francis House, Hope Haven Gospel Mission, New Beginnings, Rural Community Action Ministry, St. Martin de Porres Residence and the Salvation Army. United Way Promotes Financial Health and Awareness
CA$H is a community-based partnership aimed at helping working individuals and families plan for their financial health. CASH Logo

United Way of Androscoggin County is partnering with the Lewiston-Auburn Tax Credit Awareness Coalition to promote the largest anti-poverty program known as Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). This program offers free income tax preparation and credit reporting for low to moderate income workers.  

To date, over 1200 individuals and families in Androscoggin County have processed their tax returns with the help of the EITC.  Currently, Androscoggin County has received $1,266,000 in federal and state refunds through the program; of which $600,000 is the Earned Income Tax Credit. (MORE)

Enjoy an evening of festivities, fun and full moons as United Way of Androscoggin Countyteams up with Margaritas Restaurant to offer the community Full Moon Madness on Sunday, April 20, 2008.

From 4p.m.-1a.m. join the celebration at Margaritas Restaurant on 180 Center Street in Auburn.  The event will include games, prizes and much more! Proceeds from the evening will benefit United Way of Androscoggin County. (MORE)
