Hello from United Way--
While the weather is still cold, the activities at United Way are heating up. Here is a quick snapshot of what’s happening at our organization. Please share this newsletter with your co-workers or visit our website at www.unitedwayandro.org for more information.
Community Impact
The 2008 Community Investment process is underway with over 50 volunteers representing five impact councils. Volunteers are currently reviewing 56 program funding applications submitted by 40 agencies. In addition to reviewing the applications, the volunteers visit the agencies and conduct a program interview. Funding decisions will be determined in March.
United Way Promotes Financial Health and Awareness
CA$H is a community-based partnership aimed at helping working individuals and families plan for their financial health.

United Way of Androscoggin County is partnering with the Lewiston-Auburn Tax Credit Awareness Coalition to promote the largest anti-poverty program known as Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). This program offers free income tax preparation and credit reporting for low to moderate income workers. Many families are not aware that this federal benefit is available to them – since 2004 over 4 million dollars has come back to our community through this program.
To learn more about this program contact Larry Marcoux at the United Way office (lmarcoux@unitedwayandro.org or 795-4000) or visit http://www.unitedwayandro.org/TaxPrep.html.

United Way Helps With Heating Assistance
