Community Investment
Two years ago United Way of Androscoggin County began designing a new investment model—Community Impact. In 2005, the organization conducted a community needs assessment to obtain the public’s opinion regarding the local health and human service needs. Nearly 400 people throughout the county participated in this assessment to review issues and challenges as well as look at how United Way could have the greatest possible impact addressing the needs. In addition to the assessment, United Way volunteers and staff reviewed statistical data from the federal government, State of Maine’s Department of Health and Human Services, the Maine Kids Count book and other resources. From this research, five councils were created. This year the hard work and comprehensive research of our organization and committed volunteers will begin to pay off as we implement this new model.
